Workplace Wellness
Hi Health Fam!
Today, I want to talk to you about wellness in the workplace. The global workplace wellness industry was valued at $47 BILLION USD in 2017, and it is expected to grow to $66 BILLION by 2022. What?! That sounds insane. What's even crazier is that up to 15% of the entirety of the global economic output is spent on employee healthcare due to injuries and work-related health trouble. It's no wonder that employers in the United States especially are taking note of these staggering numbers. Because US businesses supply and subsidize health insurance to most Americans, it is becoming increasingly important for businesses to help keep their employees healthy (Kaiser Family Foundation). The sicker the general workforce, the more expensive they are to insure. Conversely, when employers invest in the health and wellbeing of their employees, they are able to save significantly.
Did you know that for every dollar spent on employee health and wellness, employers can see a return of over $3? Additionally, employees who participated in health and wellness activities cost companies an average of $350 less per year in healthcare savings. The benefits don't stop there. Companies who have implemented some type of corporate wellness program have seen a nearly 20% drop in absenteeism and an increase in annual productivity of over 10 hours.
Given these benefits, many employers are looking to wellness authorities to implement workplace wellness programs. They believe that in addition the monetary benefit, it will help them recruit and maintain talent.
