The Top 3 Health Investments You Should Make for Under $25!

You can treat yourself more often than you realize!

People often think about treating themselves to big purchases, but you can just as easily treat yourself to some great items that will improve your health that are $25 or under. You may just have to get a little bit more creative.

doTerra's Melaleuca (Tea Tree) oil with some of the Tea Tree plant!

#1. Essential Oils

Well, you had to have seen it coming since I put the essential oil diffuser in last week's health investments. If you picked one up, now you're going to need essential oils to diffuse! As I mentioned when I announced that I partnered with doTerra to begin carrying their oils and products in my office, I believe that if you were only going to buy one or two oils to get started that you pick the single oils Lavender or Melaleuca (Tea Tree). They can both be purchased through my office. Melaleuca comes in just shy of $24, and if you're ready to be a big spender, the lavender costs $28.

There are a lot of other options that are below the $25 mark too. Just let me know what aspect of your health or mood you're looking to improve, and I'll help you find the right oil to boost that area of your life.

#2. A Great Book

This one is a no-brainer for me. I think one of the best things that you can do for your mental and spiritual health is reading. It's an excellent opportunity to learn something new. It's also an excellent opportunity to revisit a favorite world or a favorite story. Do you have a book that you remember loving as a child? Sometimes they're even better when you're an adult. Last summer, I re-read some of my favorite children's books like Peter Pan and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. They were great as an adult! I also love reading non-fiction. I'm going to give you a few recommendations of some of my favorite authors, but just go to a local book store, buy a book, and find a great place to read it. Maybe go to your favorite local coffee shop and try reading it there.

Non-fiction: Bill Bryson (my dog's namesake actually). He writes witty historical non-fiction, and he has a way of explaining things in the most delightful and humerous ways. My recommendation is to start with A Short History of Nearly Everything.

Fiction: This is really tough, and I can't possibly presume to know what everyone will like... so I'll tell you the book that I just finished reading was Neil Gaiman's American Gods. It's a pretty graphic book, but it is also an incredible modern American mythology written by a British author!

Self-Help: Anything by Deepak Chopra. If you somehow haven't heard of Deepak Chopra, he is a medical doctor and is of Indian descent. I don't think Chopra is practicing much medicine anymore, but he is very involved in holistic health starting from an energetic and psychological perspective. If you want to try one of his books, start with his first book from the late 80s, it's called Quantum Healing

#3. A Really Good Facial Moisturizer

I picked a moisturizer because it's a great starting place for skin care. You also need a good face wash, an eye cream wouldn't hurt, and there are all sorts of masks that you can get into. However, if you're like me (a man), you probably aren't doing much in the way of skin care. I want to challenge you to try out this regimen of skin care for a month and see if you don't really enjoy it. Wash your face with a product designed for your face! Next apply a moisturizer made for your face. If you're feeling really fancy, try also applying some eye cream. It's only three steps, and it only takes an extra two or three minutes in your morning routine. I started this about three months before I got married so my skin would look good in my wedding photos, and within two weeks, I was already getting compliments on how nice my skin looked. Moreover, and definitely surprising for me, I found that I really enjoyed it. It was like I was pampering myself. I bet you'll have a similar reaction. :)

For my routine, I use a charcoal soap from Beauty Counter. I then have an eye cream, also from Beauty Counter. Finally, I finish it off with my daytime with SPF 30 moisturizer from Kiehl's, or my nighttime moisturizer also from Beauty Counter.

I am going to link you to both the Beauty Counter site that I use which is run by my lovely friend Crystal Collins who is a Beauty Counter Rep, www.bcbeautiful.com. Beauty Counter focuses on using ingredients that are safe, non-GMO, as free of lab-created additives as possible. All of their products are independently tested by the Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org), and they are consistently ranked among the safest cosmetics and skin care products available.

The charcoal soap bar at Beauty Counter is $24, the nourishing eye cream is $35, and the nourishing night cream is $47.

I am also a big fan of Kiehl's products. While they don't rank as safe on the Environmental Working Group's products as Beauty Counter, I have always enjoyed their products. Their Ultra Facial Cream is what I apply before leaving the house, and you can grab that for $18 in the smallest size. The same cream with the added SPF starts at $27.

I know all of these products aren't under $25, but if you can only afford one, pick up the moisturizer from Kiehl's, and see if that doesn't make a difference in both your skin and your self-esteem! It's always better to go out knowing that your skin looks great! It's such a good confidence booster.

See? There is always a way to treat yourself, even when cash is tight or you're on the go. You have to take care of yourself and your health. Remember, this body is the only one that you get for this lifetime, and you have to take care of it!

What else would you do with $25 to treat yourself? Comment wherever you read this blog, and I'll try to update the post with your suggestions!

Remember during the month of August, for even less than $25 you can refer a new patient, and they can have their first exam and adjustment for just $20! The regular price is $75, so you could buy nearly the whole list for the savings just on this one thing. Go ahead, I dare you. Treat yourself to better health this August! Even if you're already a patient, share this with your friends so that they can get on a path to better health and wellness today! Schedule your next appointment now!

Yours in health,

Dr. William
